A relentless storm pounded the peninsula of South Pelion, especially the seaside villages, for well over 48 hours in early September 2023. The result was devastating, affecting individuals, homes, roads, energy and water supplies. Land from the mountainous area subsided with some houses being destroyed while almost all of the remaining being overwhelmed by piling mud. Bridges were destroyed, cars were pushed into the sea, roads became inaccessible, visitors were stranded, animals were drowned and businesses needed re-building. This gallery shows some scenes immediately after the storm and beyond when the process of cleaning up began.
